Students chosen to participate in the Co-Op program will spend several weeks engaged in one or more exciting projects with members of the New Product Development (NPD) team at White River Marine Group.

Projects
Several ongoing NPD projects are available for Co-Op students, and efforts will be made early on to align projects with the student’s background and interests. We also encourage students to propose and initiate projects centered on their own original new product ideas.

Projects may include some or all of the following tasks:
·        Voice-of-customer surveys, data analysis, and identification of new products
·        New product ideation sessions and conceptual design studies
·        Marketing data analysis and ROI studies for new products
·        Detailed design and manufacturability studies
·        3D CAD modelling of complex parts and assemblies of parts
·        Simulation using finite element analysis and other naval architecture programs
·        Rapid Prototyping with Additive Manufacturing
·        Material selection, sourcing, and testing.
·        Costed engineering bill of material creation
·        3D Laser Scanning of complex geometrical shapes
·        CAM – Router programming and generation of first article parts
·        Final assembly and testing-transition to manufacturing plant

The overall goal of any chosen project shall be minimizing cost to the company and maximizing value to our customers. 

Experience and Training:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Formal Learning:
Co-Op candidates should be working towards a two-year or four-year degree in one of the following fields: marine engineering, naval architecture, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, engineering technology, industrial engineering, materials science, manufacturing technology, manufacturing engineering. Min GPA 3.0

Design, Modelling, & Simulation:
Co-Op candidate should be experienced in general design practices and be able to translate designs into physical mock-ups and solid models using computer aided design software. Catia is highly preferred. Experience with finite element analysis or other physics-based simulation software is a plus.

Equipment and Material Use:
Co-Op candidates should be familiar with common tools and equipment used for fabrication in wood, metal, plastic, or fiberglass. Experience with CNC routers and additive manufacturing machines a plus. Note: Safety training is required and available for participants needing to use most tools or machinery. Likewise, safety training is required and available for participants needing to handle and use manufacturing materials.

Decision-Making Guidance:
Co-Op candidates should be team- oriented as well as independent thinkers and problem solvers.

Work Setting:
This position is located within a comfortable office environment at White River Marine Group Headquarters in Springfield, MO. Projects may be co-located in a manufacturing plant and may involve frequent liaison trips. Position requires sitting, walking, standing, and occasional physical labor.
