Academic Interventionist WMAA

West Michigan Aviation Academy is hiring an Academic Interventionist
West Michigan Aviation Academy is a regional, tuition-free public charter high school, founded in 2010 to provide a rigorous educational program, through an aviation focus. Students are drawn to WMAA for its aviation, engineering, and STEM programs, its smaller size and its dedicated staff. Many WMAA students come from great distances, some driving up to one hour each way.
 Under the general supervision of the Dean of Academic & Student Services, the Academic Interventionist will provide services to students and families that improve students’ learning and academic achievement. Specific responsibilities will include:
 ACADEMIC SUPPORT:
  • Coordinate with administrators and other staff members to provide interventions that meet individual students’ abilities and needs
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff
  • Assist in providing appropriate accommodations to at risk learners on assessments and coursework
  • Collaborate with English Learner Coordinator to provide holistic support to English learners
  • Assist in administering WIDA assessments and other standardized assessments
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to provide classroom instructional supports
  • Maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping for the intervention process
  • Works with school team to maintain a safe and positive environment for learning
Intervention Planning
  • Utilize data to make informed recommendations regarding student’s ability and interventions needed
  • Observe students and participates in meetings
  • Work alongside deans to design, implement, and support Tier 1 strategies for students
Skills Needed
  • Knowledge and skills in collecting, analyzing, and maintaining student data 
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students, including knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents 
REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATION
Satisfactory criminal background check
Experience working with English Learners preferred
