Business Manager

SALARY: $7,889 – $9,611/mo.

THE POSITION
This City of Fresno is currently recruiting for the position of Business Manager. Under general supervision, the Business Manager manages and coordinates the business management functions within a division or department; and provides responsible administrative support to assigned management staff. This position exercises independent judgment relating to the development, revision, and implementation of various policies and procedures.
 
The current vacancy is in the Department of Public Works. The Public Works Department is funded through a variety of sources such as the General Fund, various federal, state and local transportation related funds, and developer fees and charges. Total Department appropriations in FY 2022 are budgeted at $282,620,300. The Business Manager will also serve as the Public Works Grants Administrator. This is a crucial position in providing funding for the department and must have experience in Grant writing and Grant administration. Applicants who meet the requisite requirements and who have grant writing and grant administration experience may be deemed most qualified and referred to the department for further consideration.
 
The Business Manager classification exists in several departments. Therefore, the City of Fresno may choose to utilize this recruitment for future vacancies. This is an unclassified position in which the incumbent serves at the will of the Department Director.

The City of Fresno offers an attractive and competitive salary and benefits package. The salary is dependent upon qualifications. The employee benefits package, as noted below, is subject to change and includes:
 
Retirement: Fresno City Retirement System; reciprocity with other public California systems. The City's pension funds are among the best funded public systems in California. The City does not participate in Social Security.
Health Insurance: City contributes toward the current monthly premium for medical, dental, and vision for employee and dependents.
Flexible Spending Account: IRS 125 Plan for health/dependent care.
Deferred Compensation: 457 plan available.
Management Leave: 60 hours per fiscal year. May cash out up to 48 hours during fiscal year in which leave is credited.
Annual Leave: 20 days per year of annual leave with cash out provision.
Holidays: Ten (10) City-observed holidays annually, plus birthday and one (1) personal day per year.
Life Insurance: Equal to annual salary; premium paid by City.
Long-Term Disability: City pays premium for 66.66% of monthly salary up to $7,500 per month after 30 days.

THE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for further consideration:
 
Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance or related field; AND four years of professional, administrative, operations, budgetary or similar experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
 
Applicants with experience in grant writing and grant administration may be deemed most qualified and referred to the department for further consideration.
 
A copy of degree or college transcripts must be uploaded and included in your on-line application for verification of requirement. Applicants lacking the documentation may be rejected.
 
Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
 
The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
