On-call Advocates will build strong relationships with each shelter resident and support them with navigating systems to obtain necessary services. Must be available to work any shifts for staff coverage, which includes 7AM-3PM, 3-11PM and 11PM-7AM. You will be promised 16 hours per week. On-Call Advocates are required to work holiday shifts (the day before, the day of, and/or the day after the holiday) – unfortunately no exceptions can be made.
 
WAGE: $15.00 per hour
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Answer crisis calls and keep the shelter locked and safe at all times.
  • Assist shelter residents with their daily needs: filling out paper work; looking for jobs, housing, and resources.
  • Maintain accurate daily contact, group attendance of participants.
  • Maintain complete record of child and woman’s current situation and progress – updating house log, change over, and night count.
  • Participate as team member to ensure effective delivery of services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • Individuals pursuing a degree in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or related field preferred, or demonstrably equivalent experience can be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
·       Ability to speak Vietnamese, Chinese, Tagalog, or Karen.
·       Knowledge of children/family advocacy.
·       Knowledge of county, state and federal assistance programs.
·       Ability to work in crisis situations and to work respectfully with different cultures, groups and languages.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • AWUM strongly advises employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Employees not fully vaccinated must show proof upon hire of receiving the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna shot and the scheduled date in which they will receive the second dose. Weekly COVID testing will apply until the second dose is completed. For employees who elect not to get the vaccine, weekly COVID testing will apply.
