The Department of Education is seeking a school finance specialist to join our team. The Office of State Aid and School Finance oversees the state funding for public school districts and collects financial, student, and teacher compensation data.We have an open and collaborative team environment that supports school districts in maintaining good fiscal management practices while providing education on fiscal compliance. This professional opportunity offers a variety of responsibilities and experiences including calculating state aid to education for all public school districts. Collecting, analyzing and reporting educational fiscal and student data. This position works closely with school districts across the state as a primary contact for school financial accounting and reporting.
We provide professional growth through valuable trainings, leadership programs and opportunities to collaborate with Department of Education staff, state agencies and school districts. 
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or a related field and/or knowledge or experience with governmental accounting and finance, specifically related to public school districts.
Knowledge of:
  • laws and regulations governing the fiscal requirements around school finance and state aid to education;
  • the principles and methods used in the collection, analysis and presentation of data;
  • school district or government accounting and budgeting practices;
  • Microsoft Excel spreadsheet formulas and other Microsoft products.
Skills to:
  • complete high quality work with the appropriate technology including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access;
  • the ability to review financial information on a school district's annual financial report;
  • interpret state codified laws;
  • prepare reports related to federal program compliance;
  • communicate updates and changes to financial data requirements.
Ability to:
  • provide guidance on compliance with the fiscal requirements of state and federal programs;
  • explain complex fiscal requirements to Department and school district staff;
  • develop training and technical assistance for public school districts;
  • deal tactfully and effectively with school district administrators and the public;
  • manage multiple, simultaneous projects;
  • present information to large audiences;
  • travel on a limited basis.
