Science Teacher (Secondary) at PCYC

JOB SUMMARY: Plymouth Youth Center’s mission is to enrich the skills, prospects, and spirit of North Minneapolis area youth and adults, in partnership with families and communities. We focus on Minneapolis youth who face significant barriers in life as they strive toward full growth and active citizenship. The primary objective of this position is to create a positive learning environment that facilitates the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. Teachers work closely with parents, the administration, other staff, other PCYC programs and the Minneapolis Public Schools, under moderate supervision.
 
WAGE RANGE: $42,000 - $54,000 annually
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach the required curricula in the various subject areas within the Science discipline.
  • Maintain a school and classroom environment that is safe and respectful of all and one that promotes education.
  • Attend school functions, community events, and student productions at the Capri.
  • Provide coverage in other classrooms as assigned
  • Identifying individual student needs and differentiate curriculum as needed.
  • Develop and implement project based learning curriculum
  • Ensure effective and timely feedback for students.
  • Uphold and enforce administrative procedures, school rules, and agency policies to students and the public.
  • Work with the Educational Leadership Team concerning issues of student achievement, behavior, attendance and/or suspension consistent with PYC policies and procedures.
  • Participate in various staff, team and committee meetings and share in additional responsibilities that come from these meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Educational Leadership Team and peers to plan, develop and implement best practices based on the needs and abilities of the students.
  • Thorough and continued awareness and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), 504 Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Provide and maintain documentation as required.
  • Attend and participate in IEP meetings assigned.
  • Ensure the timely evaluation of student work.
  • Communication with parents and families as needed.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or higher required and previous teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to relate effectively and in a positive manner with adults and youth from diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • A high level of competence in computer applications, and the ability to use these resources effectively.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach the required curricula.
  • Ability to model behavior consistent with the agency mission.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in oral and written communication on an interpersonal or group level.
  • Must possess the energy and motivation necessary to work under circumstances requiring unique responses to a variety of problem-centered situations.
  • The ability to prioritize work with multiple competing demands. Ability to relate effectively, and positively, with individuals from diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Trauma informed and equity driven approach to education.
  • Ability to travel to various locations for meetings and events as needed.
  • Knowledge of Minneapolis Public School District and State of Minnesota educational requirements.
Licenses and Certificates:
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license, certificate, or other legal credentials required for level of assignment, or ability to be waivered by the Minnesota Department of Education.
  • Valid MN Drivers’ License and/or access to reliable transportation. If you have a driver’s license, must have the ability to meet PCYC’s driving record requirements via a motor vehicle record check.
