Student Support Counselor

Seneca Family of Agencies is seeking dynamic Student Support Counselors to support our integrated, responsive special education model that provides equitable opportunities for all students. Student Support Counselors are key members of our school teams, guiding students and families to achieve academic success no matter what challenges they may be facing. Counselors provide instructional, therapeutic, and behavioral support to students in charter and district schools, working in classrooms of 25 +with one counselor in each class to provide a positive learning environment through behavior management, modification, coaching, training, and skill building.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Academic Intervention Specialists/Teachers in providing individual and group instruction as appropriate
  • Provide direct behavioral intervention/modification for students that decreases engagement in disruptive, harmful or negative behaviors and increases engagement in positive replacement behaviors
  • Provide crisis management and intervention for students, including risk assessment, crisis counseling, creation of behavioral plans, and/or physical management through Seneca's certified Equilibrium Model
  • Lead small groups of students in activities to enhance their academic, behavioral, and interpersonal and social social skills
  • Assist in monitoring students' progress toward their goals through formal documentation methods
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that all students get the support they need to achieve academic and personal success at school
  • Coordinate and collaborate with parents, classroom teachers and other providers in order to transfer skills and build capacity
  • Implement broader classroom or school-wide interventions, including trauma-informed practices and aspects of the PBIS framework
  • Participate in individual and group supervision to expand skills and receive ongoing coaching and support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid California driver's license and insurance; insurable by Seneca's automobile policy
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprints, and any other mandatory State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Conversational Spanish abilities a plus!

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm
