Shelter Program Coordinator (Client & Survivor Advocate)

Full Time 40 hours per week

Sojourner, the leading nonprofit provider of domestic violence services within the Milwaukee community since 1975, is seeking a Program Coordinator to work in our Shelter. If you are inspired by the thought of providing case management, advocacy & prevention support to survivors of domestic abuse, sexual assault, human trafficking and their children, we would love to have you join our team.

This position will work under the direction of the Associate Director of Advocacy to provide case management and safety planning support to clients to help them meet their goals for safety and self-sufficiency. This position will also collaborate with shelter, advocacy and Family Peace Center staff to assist clients and ensure all safety planning, community resource and legal assistance needs are met.

How will your days be spent?
  • Completing intakes for new residents.
  • Meeting with residents on a weekly basis to assist them with advocacy and case management needs.
  • Ensuring all safety planning, community resource and legal assistance needs are met.
  • Making referrals to and working collaboratively with agency and community resources as needed.
  • Maintaining client documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures
  • Preparing outcome reports and compile and verify all required statistics according to funder expectations in a timely manner and submit accurate copies to the appropriate parties.

  • Must possess basic knowledge of de-escalation techniques and ability to demonstrate when necessary.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful circumstances and quickly build rapport with clients in crisis.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, psychology or a job related major and a minimum of three years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow a trauma informed care approach to client service delivery
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, vendors, and other employees of the organization. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to proactively recognize and resolve issues and to quickly and efficiently solve issues and problems when they arise
  • Must be comfortable assisting clients in the midst of life altering events involving domestic violence, family violence and human trafficking.
  • Experience providing compassionate non-judgmental support to people who may exhibit symptoms related to trauma, behavioral health illness and substance use is required.
  • Have an insured vehicle with valid driver’s license

Shift: Must be available to work 9am-5pm with some flexibility to work occasional evenings based on client need. This position works on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday.
