A Senior Accountant establishes and maintains accounting systems to record and interpret financial data and perform data analytics by maintaining accounting principles, internal controls, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Participates in the monthly and annual general ledger closing process and assists with preparation of financial statements.
Responsibilities
· Maintains accounting principles, internal controls, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
· Participates in the monthly and annual general ledger closing process and assists with preparation of financial statements.
· Prepares journal entries, both standard and non-recurring and assists with the verification of transactions to ensure appropriateness, accuracy, and validity.
· Prepares reconciliations of general ledger accounts on a routine basis and upon special request, to ensure that balances are accurate, and records comply with Uniform System of Accounts (US) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
· Provides reconciliation support for intercompany billing.
· Supports the preparation and monitoring of the Operating and Capital Budgets alongside the Financial Planning and Budgeting Department.
· Coordinates the support documentations for the preparation of quarterly financial statements for the Board of Directors and credit rating agencies.
· Prepares audit schedules, reports, and analyses for external audit requests.
· Recommends development of process improvements to promote departmental efficiency.
· Provides support in preparation of annual and special reports, accounting analyses, allocations, and assist with special projects.
· Assists with preparation of the annual property tax assessment reports.
· Provides technical assistance to corporate personnel and cross trains within department.
· Ensures adherence to the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
· Handles stress effectively and works well with others.
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, plus at least five years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Strong working knowledge of US GAAP accounting practices.
· Certified Public Accountant certification.
Preferred Qualifications
· Working knowledge of GAAP utility accounting practices.
