Media Intern (Remote or Hybrid)

 About the Role:  
A Media Intern at Thaddeus will assist in working on creative and graphic design services, social media and web strategies, videography and photography, and interactive marketing. This role will help in increasing communication and engagement efforts to reach our community and establish public relations. We are looking for a hardworking Media Intern to support day-to-day operations in our Media committee, and help us create content that aligns with the non-profit's mission, vision and values.  
The Media Intern will receive direct supervision from the Development manager under the Development Department and will get the chance to work in a self-organized team setting under the Media Committee. 
  
(Note: this is an unpaid internship role) 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Create visual concepts and logos that align with Thaddeus’ mission and goals for organization projects (i.e., events, social media and website content, etc.)  
  • Assist in capturing and editing content that portrays the work Thaddeus does for community engagement purposes 
  • Strategize and collaborate with team to develop ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate the Thaddeus community or target audience(s)  
  • Assist with photographs & videos of Thaddeus staff, events, volunteer work, etc.  
  • Regularly create and publish high-quality, relevant content for Thaddeus on Instagram, Facebook and website, with a focus on social activism 
  • Assist in website maintenance and graphic or video enhancements 
  • Advise on strategies to improve organization public relations and engage Thaddeus community  
  • Participate in our Buddy system once assimilated and act as a mentor/point of contact for new interns transitioning into your team during their induction and onboarding process 
 
Qualifications:  
Required: 
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Graphic Design, Video Production, Photography, Communications, and/or have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience 
  • Proficient in photo/video editing software (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.) and/or website development experience  
  • Experience in graphic design (flyers, infographics, and other marketing materials) 
  • Ability to adapt quickly and implement creative and innovative ideas, templates and systems 
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet project deadlines  
  • Have a high level of accuracy, integrity, and responsibility  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) 
  • Intern must have the appropriate technology, internet connection and ability to function in a virtual capacity via Microsoft Teams 
Preferred:  
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) 
  • Familiar with product awareness and excellent customer service 
  • Familiar with media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, TikTok, etc.) 
  • Basic knowledge of HTML tags 
  • Experience with various forms of technology (MacBook, iPhones, HP, Dell, etc.) 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams and OneNote, 8x8 Work, and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Adobe Acrobat DC) 
 
Learning Objectives: 
  • Intern will gain basic experience in videography and photography 
  • Intern will gain basic experience in designing, producing, and installing graphic displays 
  • Intern will obtain a basic understanding of image and video editing 
  • Intern will learn how to develop the skills necessary to transition ideas into deliverable marketing content for businesses 
  • Intern will learn to create and publish social media and website content   
  • Intern will get a general understanding of web maintenance/development techniques and production tasks 
 
Time Commitment and Working Conditions: 
  • Due to COVID-19, the responsibilities for this role can be performed 100% remotely, on-site, or as a hybrid experience 
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week  
  • Must be available for the following VIRTUAL weekly meetings: 
  • Weekly All Staff Meeting: Mondays 9 AM – 10:30 AM PST 
  • Weekly Department Meeting: Wednesdays 2 PM - 3 PM PST 
  • Weekly Committee Meeting: TBD  
  • Must be able to commit to this 3-month (Summer), 6-month (Summer/Fall/Spring), or 1-year (Fall/Spring) internship (accommodations can be made for school schedules, as well as exams) 
NOTE: There are various department and committee meetings held throughout the week and, as a Media intern, you may be asked to attend one or more of these other meetings every now and then throughout your internship to assist with specific projects - because of this, you should have somewhat of an open or flexible availability. (If you have questions regarding this and the specific meeting times, please email ask during the interview process)
