Americas Continuous Improvement – Leadership Development Program (SEED)

Position Overview:
This role offers an exciting career opportunity for qualified entry level individuals who are truly energized by team collaboration, and who are interested in continuous learning and growth. This role offers preparation for individuals seeking future promotion to higher level opportunities in Operations, Engineering, and General Management fields within the corporation. Candidates will be exposed to key Safety, Lean Operations and Business Management doctrines. Candidates will be afforded the opportunity to teach these concepts to others through a process of learning by doing, that will encompass classroom, lab, and actual factory floor experience. Candidates will develop understanding and expertise in areas such as: High Reliability Organizations, Human & Operational Performance, Human Factors (Safety), Lean/Six Sigma, Operations Management, Finance for Non-Financial Managers, Interaction Management, Advanced Leadership Theory and Practice, and Organizational Development. 

In year two of this two-year program, candidates will embark on a mentored journey to work directly with plant operations staff at two different locations within the Crown portfolio of businesses. During this period, candidates will rotate through various positions in Safety, Operations, Engineering, Quality and Planning, to gain exposure to these functions and determine future career interest for candidates as they approach permanent placement within Crown. During year two of this program, candidates will continue to be mentored by a member of the Crown Americas C.I. team, who will track their assignments and conduct weekly coaching / mentoring sessions to track progress and learning.        

General Syllabus Year-One
•Introduction to Crown Safety culture
•High Reliability Organizations
•Human & Operational Performance
•Safe Start Training & Train the Trainer Certification
•S.I.F.p (Serious Injury Fatality prevention)
•BLMS (Basic Lean Management System fundamentals)
•Green Belt certification program
•General training certification (training and communication skills development)
•Practice Delivery of Crown Safety- C.I. content in classroom, lab, and field settings
•Weekly mentoring sessions with Senior Crown C.I. team member
 
General Syllabus Year- Two
•Move to facility- based assignment #1 & #2 (6 months in duration each)
•Safety: Practical application of Crown Safety compliance requirements, leadership principles, and tools in a day-to-day operational context.
•Quality: Voice of the Customer, learn Crown quality systems and support the implementation of a stop and fix, zero pass through of defects quality culture.
•Supervision: Gain hands on experience with directing personnel in production related activity. To include: Engineering technology, production methods and procedures, standards, and machine and equipment capabilities.
•Financial Accounting and Reporting: Learn how to calculate and measure standards for, spoilage, labor, materials, and miscellaneous expense, as well as budgeting processes at large.
•Management responsibilities: Production Control, Accounting, Quality Control, Engineering and SPC. Shadow each manager responsible for these areas for 30 days. 
•Coordinating of Department activities: Balancing production activities along with procurement, maintenance, production planning, safety, and quality control activities to obtain optimal use of employee and equipment resources.
•General Management: Review and analyze reporting Data: Determine causes for non-conformity (out of standard or target condition) with production specifications and operating or production problems to include variance/financial non-conformance.
•Human Resources: Gain an understanding of Plant policies, work rules, safety compliance requirements and union contract compliance (where applicable). Effectively know, understand, and develop the ability to evaluate each when making directional decisions for the plant/business.
Activities & Training: (Subject to modification depending on plant assigned to)
•Work with Operations Supervisor.
 ◦Understand Manning.
 ◦Hourly Production Reporting and GAP analysis.
 ◦Can Making Processes.
◾Match Production Systems Audit with process and day to day activities.
◾Safety meetings/Compliance.
◾Daily reporting.
 
• Work with Plant Manager and Plant Accountant.
 ◦KPI calculations/reporting.
 ◦GAP analysis for performance and financials.
 ◦Strategic Planning/Operating.
 ◦Daily meetings/conference calls.
•Quality Control.
 ◦Work with QA Technicians.
 ◦Gain a clear understanding of quality tests, attributes, and statistical measurements.
◾NWA/QAS Reporting/Compliance. 
 ◦Work with QA Manager to understand day- to- day evaluation of plant quality and compliance to SPC.
 ◦Defect Training.
◾Develop ability to assess quality defects and possible areas of cause.
•Work with Production Control/Shipping.
 ◦Understand scheduling/planning process.
◾Customer Orders.
 
Job Requirements

Qualifications:
In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

•Must be confident and comfortable leading training sessions in front of groups.
•Must be punctual with attendance and assignments.
•Must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams software platforms.
Minimum Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
•Minimum 1 year in an operations role (including internships and Coop experience)
•Minimum 1 year in a manufacturing environment (including internships and Coop experience)
•Must be willing to relocate during the full duration of the SEED program, as well as post program, to fill advancement opportunities when, and where they become available.
•May occasionally need to work evening weekend hours to support shifts while on field assignments.
•Approximately 40 to 50% overnight travel required.
