DESCRIPTION
The IT System Administration-Journey is in the Information Technology Services (ITS) Division. This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure and works collaboratively with members of the Information Technology Services Division, internal members within their own department, and the college community as a whole.

This position is responsible and/or involved with recommending, designing, implementing, supporting, managing and troubleshooting enterprise-level applications and services as well as the underlying technologies that may include database, storage systems, internet services and authentication technologies. These information systems improve the college's technology services while aligning with the college's mission and goals. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the network, servers, and services. As an on-site final tier escalation point, it is expected that this position be available to assist all other technical workers and solve all problems assigned - through research, discussion and vendor support, if necessary.

This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
ITS supports all campus computing - both academic and administrative. It manages networking, servers, performance and quality of all college websites, the web portal, software and application development, as well as data and administrative system support.

ITS provides in-person workshops and training to faculty and staff, and offers an array of video production services live streaming for campus events, videotaping and post-production, as well as producing original programming to support college activities.

ITS broadcasts 24/7 programming for the college and outlying community on The College Channel television station.

The Infrastructure Team provides core enterprise services and IT infrastructure for the college's information systems. The team ensures the college's digital information, technology services and enterprise systems are strategically planned, implemented, tested and supported to meet the technology needs of students, staff, and faculty.

POSITION DUTIES

• Supports, maintains, and enhances existing, high risk and impact, mission critical servers/services; Analyzes and resolves very complex problems such as multiple product problems, dump analysis, or major conflicts caused by a new hardware or software version.
• Monitoring application health (ex: enterprise-wide websites, web servers, load balancers, etc.), updating as per law, vendor, customer and administration demands, applying updates and resolving problems involving multiple systems (ex: agency data to SQL to PowerShell to Active Directory to Office 365).
• Resolve incidents and conduct root cause analysis of critical outages; Investigate and repair all network, server and/or enterprise application problems or outages; Identifying validity and source of outage, communicating issue and expected timeline to restoration, and restoring services.
• Monitor servers and services for health and upcoming maintenance and industry news for critical information; Review all server and service alert notifications for severity and appropriate action. Stay abreast of industry threats and changes (viruses, product end of life and opportunities).
• Applies emerging and evolving technologies to current and future business needs at the enterprise, operational and tactical levels; Keeping current with technology trends and how they may impact the college. Appropriately apply new technology to college infrastructure as necessary.
• Schedule and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, on schedule and within budget; Continual Reprioritization of projects based on availability, need, benefit, budget and timeline.
• Write documentation, either independently or collaboratively; Maintain and create documentation for new and existing servers, services and equipment.
• Provide enterprise architecture guidance, support and coordination to customers and IT project teams; Serving as a technical lead on project teams and our Change Advisory Board, final escalation point of support tickets and consultant to the development/integration team.
• Investigate and repair network, server and/or enterprise application problems or outages; Issues often involve major, enterprise-wide systems, such as Internet access, payroll applications, e-mail, Active Directory, DNS, etc.; Identifying validity and source of outage, communicating issue and expected timeline to restoration, and restoring services.
• Suspected malware, imaged drive, opened image on Linux workstation and discovered Zero Day malware had tried to inject itself into network stack, decommissioned 2003 Servers and rebuilt servers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES

• Bachelor's degree in computer science (or similar) or four (4) years experience as a systems engineer
• Ability to create, manage, and work with multiple system platforms that operate within the same environment
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working in a collaborative team environment with diverse employees and student/customer groups

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency with Linux operating systems
• Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to improve enterprise-level systems to support business processes and utilize emerging technologies
• Demonstrated ability to apply emerging and evolving technologies to current and future business needs at the enterprise, operational and tactical levels
• Knowledge of key regulatory requirements and guidance relating to enterprise architecture
