Strategic Communication Assistant
Do you enjoy writing, storytelling, and creating engaging content? UNLV Information Technology is looking for a student writer to work alongside our Senior IT Strategic Communications Specialist in a mentee role.
You'll learn how to transform technical topics into compelling stories for newsletters, websites, and social media. No prior technology experience is required; we’ll teach you the technology.
We’re looking for someone with curiosity, strong writing skills, and an interest in journalism, communications, media, or a related field.
Job description:
- Generate innovative and engaging story ideas that align with the department's goals as well as reach the target audience.
- Assist in researching and writing articles, stories, and other original content for various platforms, including newsletters, websites, and social media.
- Conduct interviews with relevant individuals for articles, ensuring accurate and captivating content.
- Identify emerging trends, events, and topics of interest to develop proactive story ideas that resonate with the target audience.
- Contribute to the production of department newsletters, ensuring content is organized, well-formatted, and visually appealing.
- Working with professional communication staff, students develop the customer service skills valued in a professional job setting.
Requirements:
- Has experience editing content, including writing headlines, captions, etc.
- Have good interpersonal communication skills for interviewing and gathering content for stories, newsletter, website, etc.
- The ability to meet deadlines; and attention to detail.
- Be familiar with professional/journalistic writing and reporting (such as Associated Press style);
Hours and Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 15-20 hours per week
