The Graduate Assistant supports the Office of Accessibility Resources in expanding campus understanding and use of accessible digital content practices. The role includes assisting with accessibility training, guided review of digital materials, remediation support, and follow-up assistance for faculty, staff, and campus units. This role combines accessibility support, guided review, and training assistance to help faculty, staff, and campus units improve the accessibility of digital materials used across the university.

This position is anticipated to begin in Fall 2026. Training will be provided. Prior accessibility experience is helpful but not required. This role is primarily in-person with the possibility of some remote flexibility after training.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with accessibility workshops, open labs, and hands-on training sessions for faculty, staff, and student employees
  2. Co-facilitate presentations related to document accessibility, caption quality, slide accessibility, and course accessibility tools
  3. Lead portions of introductory training sessions under staff guidance
  4. Assist with review and remediation of documents, presentations, videos, and digital materials submitted for accessibility support
  5. Support accessibility-related ticket workflows and follow-up communication
  6. Assist faculty and staff with common accessibility questions under guidance of accessibility staff
  7. Help develop practical examples, guides, and training materials for campus use
  8. Participate in accessibility demonstrations and other campus support activities as needed
  9. Attend and participate in meetings with accessibility team members

Required Qualifications

  • Current admission to a graduate program at UNLV
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to explain technical processes clearly
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience presenting, teaching, tutoring, or facilitating workshops
  • Comfort working with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Canvas, or Google Workspace
  • Familiarity with both Windows and MacOS
  • Interest in accessibility, instructional support, digital communication, or higher education

Eligibility

  • In order to be eligible for a GA position, the student must be fully admitted as a degree-seeking
  • Domestic Graduate must be enrolled in at least 3 credits and have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • International Graduate must be enrolled in at least 9 credits and have a 3.0 GPA or higher

Note: Graduate student new students may not begin their GA before their term of admission.

Priority consideration will be given to applications received by April 3, 2026. Applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis throughout April until the position is filled.

Please also submit a one-page cover letter addressing why you are interested in supporting accessibility and digital content work in a university setting and a specific example of a time you had to review, organize, improve, or explain detailed content carefully.

Application Process and/or Renewal of Assistantships

  • Students must submit a new GA application via the “Funding” tab in the Grad Rebel Gateway each academic year, even if the GA is continuing in the same position. 
  • If a GA is appointed for one semester at a time, a new application must be submitted each semester to be considered for an assistantship. 
  • Students must also submit a new GA application to be appointed for summer or to apply for a new or different assistantship
