My schedule was flexible, and the office was very accommodating to structure the internship around my learning desires. Trane was very receptive to feedback and allowed me to navigate the internship experience how I wanted.
What I wish was different
I wish there was a culminating or capstone project where I could combine my previously learned technical abilities with the new information and knowledge I had gained from the internship.
Advice
Be a self starter, do not wait for tasks or opportunities to be give to you. Create your own challenges and don't be afraid to ask questions.

What I liked
I was able to work on my own projects and have autonomy over my schedule.
What I wish was different
It was very far from home and I wished I had had more human interaction.
Advice
Don’t be afraid to travel for an internship. It’s a good way to explore a new city for a short time and even if you don’t like it, it will be over in a couple months.

Operations Intern
May - August 2018 • Columbia, SC
What I liked
I really like the culture at the company and specifically at the plant that I was working at. It was also an awesome learning experience as I got to work on many diverse projects with actual implications for the plant.
What I wish was different
I was working in a role that is more typically associated with Industrial Engineers. This meant that I wasn't given the chance to use much of the technical knowledge that I have been building on in my Mechanical Engineering classes.
Advice
Don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone a little bit. I had never lived outside of Michigan so going down to South Carolina where I knew nobody was a big deal for me but I had an awesome summer and I am super glad that I decided to go.
